A Gandhian Perspective - Chairperson of YSI -21 , Dr.Jeevan Kumar
Mahatma Gandhi’s idea of interdependence and co-creating societal well-being, which is grounded in the theme of this conference - “My well-being is contained in the well-being of others” - needs to be located in the framework of Gandhian Humanism. Gandhi believed in the oneness and essential unity of all human beings. Man’s mission on this Earth is to overcome his innate, original brutal force by love, self-sacrifice and self-renunciation; and thereby realize the divinity that dwells within. The immediate service of all human beings (well-being of others) becomes a necessary part of this endeavour, simply because the only way to find God is to see Him in His creation and be one with it. This can only be done by the service of all.
This year Gandhiji’s idea of - “My well being, is contained in the wellbeing of others”, is understood by the interplay and dialect between Swabhava and Swadharma, responsibility to Self and Society “ ( Konnuru Ramakrishna Rao, in his book Gandhi’s DHarma Padmashree & Gandhian).
The COVID pandemic situation has made us realize this truth. Especially with online classes, teachers and students have faced difficulty, as they have adapted to online learning, which they could resolve by only co-creating solutions, together with the learning community.
We are confident that this YSI - 21 conference, will not only help us to learn co-creating societal well-being together, as per Gandhian values, but also help teachers and students to reimagine education as we go into online learning, and also solve problems together.
